During the month of April, 2015, VISUAL hosted artist Kurznachzehn.
The artist is most commonly recognized for multi- layered stencil work of vintage family photographs. The stencils are either pasted up or spray painted directly onto various exterior surface and typically on wood panels, canvas and found metal for gallery shows. Kurznachzehn also created a collection of works on canvas in collaboration with San Diego artist, Jason Gould. The artists work can be seen throughout various German cities, most noteably Duesseldorf and Cologne. You can see more of Kurznachzehn at www.facebook.com/kurznachzehn and at Visual Shop, 3776 30th street San Diego CA. 92104. Mixed Media artist Matthew Agcolicol will be the featured artist @ VISUAL in North Park, San Diego. Matthew's recent work incorporates layers of hand painted calligraphy which create flowing abstract patterns. This new work will be available during the opening reception on March 14, 2015.
Saturday January 10 through January 31 artist Victor Villa will have his latest collection of paintings and assemblages on view at VISUAL. Victor's new work plays with geometric design which resembles architecture and city maps. The abstract design paintings have a connection with early "Futurism" as well as the more current "Graffuturism" abstract graffiti movement. Regardless of the influences the new work is filled with playful color and movement. The hard edge geometric shapes shift and collide and at times jump off the surface of the paintings. The movement and positioning of the hard edge spray painted shapes create a rhythm and a sense of traveling to imaginary destinations.
Recent works by artist Aries Tjhin. This new work explores the artists fascination with stories and mythologies from different cultures. These stories have inspired new imageries referencing icon paintings of the middle ages, African votive sculptures and Asian arts of Chinese and Japanese. The artist uses cut paper as a stencil then, spray paints them onto mylar collaging the cut outs and stencil patterns into a layered and intricate tapestry of narratives. Brittni Cute’s new solo exhibition, “ECHOES”, will be premiering at Visual Shop during North Park’s monthly “Ray At Night” art walk. This body of work is a continuation of her study of “how sound would be interpreted in the visual form", and an exploration of the past and the memories that haunt us. From ominous to serene, these abstract images are elucidations of those emotions lingering within us, and a beautiful representation of coming out on the other side. Modern Times Brewing Company will be providing a half-barrel keg of their craft beer, while music for the evening will be a compilation of beats and sounds, mixed by Roric, that inspired the series. www.bcutephotography.com http://www.visualshopsd.com/ https://soundcloud.com/roric http://moderntimesbeer.com/
